About this tool
Reduce a PDF file's size for easier emailing or uploading, using Ghostscript to downsample and re-compress embedded images inside the PDF while keeping the text and layout intact. Works best on PDFs that contain large scanned images or photos; text-only PDFs are usually already small and may not shrink much further.
The tool automatically compares the compressed output against the original and keeps whichever file is actually smaller — so if a PDF is already well-optimized and compression wouldn't help, you simply get the original back rather than a larger 'compressed' file, which is a common failure mode with naive compression tools.
How to use it
