AccessVane vs UserWay: overlay or repair

UserWay is the other large overlay vendor. Same architecture as accessiBe, same consequence: your pages are unchanged, so a scan of them still fails.

What is on the public record

  • Sites running UserWay appeared in 187 US web accessibility lawsuits during 2024.
  • Its WordPress plugin has around 80,000 active installs and had not been updated for roughly eight months as of August 2026.
  • In the first half of 2025, 456 US accessibility lawsuits were filed against websites that already had some overlay installed.

In fairness to UserWay

UserWay's free tier is genuinely free and its widget is less intrusive than some. If you want a preferences panel and understand it is not compliance, it does that job.
