Some images have no text description, so a screen reader announces them as just "image" or reads out the file name.
Who this affects
Blind and low-vision visitors using a screen reader. It also breaks image search and shows nothing when an image fails to load.
Fix it in WordPress
Open Media Library, switch to list view, and fill in the Alternative Text field. In Gutenberg, select the image block and use Settings → Alt text. In Elementor, it reads the alt text from the Media Library, so fix it there rather than per-widget.
What the fix is, technically
Add an alt attribute describing what the image shows. If the image is purely decorative, use alt="" so screen readers skip it, an empty alt is correct, a missing one is not.
